Jack H2 & H2L

H2 or H2L — what’s the difference?

Jack H2 Industrial Sewing Machine

A great first industrial sewing machine.

If you’re looking to move up from a domestic machine or buy your first proper industrial sewing machine, the Jack H2 is a great place to start.

It gives you the strength and control of an industrial walking-foot machine without the bigger investment of the more advanced models.

I recommend the H2 to people who want to sew heavier materials such as upholstery fabric, vinyl, canvas and leather, but don’t necessarily need lots of automatic features.

It’s a straightforward, capable machine that lets you concentrate on learning to sew and getting your projects finished.

Is the Jack H2 right for you?
I would consider the H2 if:

  • this is your first industrial sewing machine

  • you’re moving up from a domestic or heavy-duty domestic machine

  • you want to sew upholstery, vinyl, canvas or similar heavier materials

  • you’re making cushions, bags, seats or smaller covers

  • you want a machine for hobby use or to start earning from your sewing

  • you want to keep your initial investment sensible

  • you’d rather have a good, reliable machine than pay for features you may not need

The H2 is particularly suited to someone who is just getting into industrial sewing and wants a machine they can build their confidence on.

What can you make with the Jack H2?
The H2 can be used for a wide range of projects, including:

  • upholstery

  • boat cushions

  • caravan and motorhome cushions

  • vinyl seating

  • vehicle upholstery

  • bags

  • leather projects

  • outdoor cushions

  • canvas projects

  • smaller covers

It’s a very versatile machine for somebody who wants to work with heavier materials without moving straight into the more expensive professional models.

H2 or H2L — what’s the difference?
The main difference between the Jack H2 and Jack H2L is the amount of working space you have around your project.

The standard H2 is ideal for upholstery, cushions, bags and general heavy-material sewing.

The H2L is the long-arm version, giving you more room behind the needle.

That extra space becomes useful when your projects start getting larger and bulkier.

Choose the Jack H2 if...
You’re mainly making:

  • cushions

  • upholstery

  • bags

  • seating

  • vehicle interiors

  • smaller canvas projects

  • smaller covers

For most upholstery and cushion work, the standard H2 gives you the space you need without paying extra for a long arm.

Choose the Jack H2L if...
You expect to make more:

  • boat covers

  • awnings

  • larger outdoor covers

  • large canvas projects

  • bulky items

  • projects where you have a lot of material to manoeuvre around the machine

The important point is that the H2L isn’t necessarily about sewing a heavier material.

It’s about giving you more room to handle a bigger project.

If you’re trying to manoeuvre metres of canvas around the machine, that extra working space can make your life much easier.

Do you need to spend more on the H2L?

Not necessarily.

I don’t believe in telling somebody to buy the more expensive machine just because it’s available.

If you’re mainly making cushions and upholstery, I’d probably tell you to save your money and choose the standard H2.

But if you already know you’re going to be making larger covers and bulky projects regularly, the additional working space of the H2L could be well worth having.

My view on the Jack H2

If you came to me and said:
“I want to get into industrial sewing. I want to sew upholstery, cushions, vinyl and canvas, but I don’t want to spend more than I need to.”
The Jack H2 would be one of the first machines I’d show you.

If you then told me:
“I’m planning to make large boat covers and bulky canvas projects.”
I’d start talking to you about the H2L.

That’s really the difference.

H2 — a great all-round starting point.
H2L — the same type of starting point, but with extra working space for larger projects.

Still not sure which one you need?
Tell me what you want to make.
I’ll help you decide whether the H2, H2L, H7 or H7L is the right machine for the work you actually want to do. You can also take the quiz to help you decide.

No jargon. No pushing you towards the most expensive option. Just help choosing the right machine.
